“Historic” Primary Turnout Expected

March 15th, 2016 by Mike Vasilinda

Florida officials are predicting a “historic turnout today across Florida.  A steady flow of voters began showing up early at polling places and they are expected to continue coming until the polls close at 7PM. As Mike Vasilinda tells us, only a few problems cropped up.

Right over here” “Thank You” directed the poll worker to newly arriving voters.

From one end of the state  to the other, Secretary of State Ken Detzner said only a few of the state’s 5810 precincts had minor problems.

“No voters were impacted. Duval County confirmed an issue this morning involving their electronic poll books. And had to switch over to paper precinct registers, which is the standard backup method” said Detzner at a morning news conference.

The Secretary of State is expecting a “historic” turnout.

“In Hillsborough County  within the first ten minutes of the polls opening, they had three thousand votes cast.

The record for a Presidential Preference Primary was set in 2008, when 42 percent of the registered voters went to the polls.

Josh Atkins is one of the reasons for the high volume of voters. As a no party affiliate, he joined the GOP so he could vote in the primary.

“Why did you decide to change your party affiliation?”

“To specifically vote against Trump. To vote for Marco Rubio, to give him the best chance of winning against Trump.”

Q:Seems like a long shot?”

“Maybe. Maybe not”.

Also driving turnout: anger. This voter didn’t want us to use her name

“You’re a little cynical?”

A:”Very cynical.

Q:”Why?”

A:”Why? Nobody is doing anything. They are all horrible. Legislature from the ground up. they don’t do anything.”

Feeding the historic turnout? The two million who cast early or mail in ballots before the polls ever opened.

Anything less than a strong second place finish for Marco Rubio here in his home state is considered enough to force him from the race.
