Handicapped Taxis
February 10th, 2012 by flanewsA Senate Committee is giving the go ahead to a plan to provide tax breaks to taxi companies that buy equipment to make their cabs more wheelchairs accessible. The bill originally called for all cab companies to make a certain percentage of their fleet accessible to people with disabilities. It was scaled back to incentivize instead of punish cab drivers. State Senator Andy Gardiner says the bill is better now.
“Sales tax credit for companies that actually purchase these vehicles is a good, good thing. That is how you incentives,” said Gardiner.
The bill also requires the state to conduct a study to see how many people are unable to catch a cab, because the vehicles don’t meet their needs.
