Crist Renews Call for Special Session
November 5th, 2009 by flanewsGovernor Charlie Crist is reiterating a call for a special session to secure federal dollars for a commuter rail. Plans to build a rail system in Central Florida and enhance the Tri Rail system in Southeast Florida have been knocked off track two consecutive years. Recent news from Washington has lawmakers reconsidering a deal. If state lawmakers don’t do something for commuter rail, they might not get federal support for high speed rail. Crist is urging lawmakers to act quickly.
“I want to talk about this rail project to maybe have the opportunity to have a special session sooner than later because it will help Florida,” said Crist.
Lawmakers could be called back to Tallahassee as soon as December to vote on commuter rail.
